Myx Stool 2015

Developed as a part of the Fungal Future / Growing Domestic Landscapes exhibition at Oude Hortus, the botanical garden of Universitets Museum Utrecht, from March the 24th - May 16th of 2016. Curated and organized by Maurizio Montaltio / Officina Corpuscoli the group of exhibitors included: Phil Ross, Eric Klarenbeek, Kristel Peters amongst others. Acquired by The Art Institute Chicago(US) permanent collection in 2020.

The Myx stool is a continuation of the work with mycelium textile materials developed by Jonas Edvard in 2013. the Stool is initially grown together from 7 similar structures of moulded hemp and mycelium textile components. The individual pieces are thereafter combined into a selfsupporting structure which is aligned and fused by natural growth of the mycelium material. The binding qualities and separate moulded connections in mycelium composites structures is the first of its kind to be developed and shown worldwide. The Stool illustrates a clear connection to the industrial design mechanism enabling similar and modular shaping of flat material structures into 3d moulded pieces enhanced by the additional adhesive effect of the mycelium to connect and bridge elements or structures in a whole body of solid materials.
