MYX tile 2017

A sound absorbing modular element using the natural absorbance of the hemp fiber in combination with mushroom mycelium. The design of the Myx Tile is based upon an traditional tri-weave pattern which visualizes the total structure as endless and continuously moving in all directions. The tile is double faced and can be free hanging with absorption on both sides or utilize the effect of indirect absorption as a wall element. The non woven Hemp fiber is a regular plantfibre mat which contains only natural materials and no artificial support fibres or added resins. the natural absorbance of the fibre makes it ideal as a structural component in organic composites because of the natural lignin content and long fiber lengths. The MYX tile was firstly shown at the Fungal Future Exhibition II in Museum Twentesewelle, Netherlands.
