MYX color 2016

The project aims to visualize a method of remediation of toxic textile coloring from reused fibres and natural fibres haven gone through a standard color dying proces. The typical industrial textile dye for cellulosic fibres is done by adding mineral salt initially loosening the fibre structure with an alkalic solution. The color absorbancy is enhanced by the salts becoming the carrier of the pigment and binder adhered to the cellulosic fibrous element. In order to test how the mycelium interacts with the cellulosic fiber a series of test was done to explain a visual interpretation of the color removed from the fibre by the mushroom mycelium. A final piece exploring the color range and intensity by using the mycelium as detoxifier was produced and commissioned by the NCCD - The National Center for Craft and Design (UK) and presented along with other color artists in the occuring exhibtion called: Hybrids in 2016.
