Myx Lamp 2018

With the invitation from Centre Pompidou(Fr) for the “Fabrique du vivant” exhibition a new selection of pieces was commissioned to create a new understanding and research in the field of textile based mycelium design. The Myx lamp was created from sections of non woven hemp textile which was incubated with mycelium and fixed in a supporting mould with the aim of enhancing the surface area of growth - allowing unrestricted moisture air and temperature control of the living material. The piece was moulded in shape and combined to form a whole as in the construction of the Myx stool from 2016. In this case a similar approach was taken but eventually a longer growth period allowed for a sturdier material and final shape. The mycelium would grow together the similar modules and allow for a reinforcement of surface areas to seamlessly connect the parts together.
